What is Conference

This CPI Certified Instructors’ Conference is an opportunity for Certified Instructors from around the U.S. to gather and learn about what’s new from CPI, listen to inspiring speakers, add new certifications, renew existing certifications, collaborate with fellow Certified Instructors, and have a great time doing all of it.

Where is Conference?

It will be at the JW Marriott Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

When is Conference?

Conference takes place the week of July 23, 2023

Conference days: July 23-25

Program Training days: July 26-28

What is the cost to attend Conference?

The cost to attend Conference is $600 US ($800 CAD), which includes sessions, meals, and Conference-designated events. It does not include the cost of attending an optional training program. Travel, accommodations, and other expenses outside of Conference-designated events are the responsibility of the attendee.

What is the cost to attend Conference if I am a Meritorious or Master Certified Instructor?

Meritorious and all Master Certified Instructors are $250 USD ($325 CAD). It does not include the cost of attending an optional training program. Travel, accommodations, and other expenses outside of Conference-designated events are the responsibility of the attendee.

Who should attend Conference?

All Certified Instructors are encouraged to attend Conference. It’s the ideal destination for anyone who wants to refresh or advance their professional development.

Can new Certified Instructors attend?

Yes, attending Conference is a great way for new Certified Instructors to learn critical skills and build their network with other Certified Instructors.

Can someone who is not a Certified Instructor obtain their Certification at Conference?

Yes! Non-Certified Instructors can come if they plan to participate in one of the available Instructor Certification Programs.

How do I get to Conference?

Attendees choose how they want to travel to conference. They are also responsible for all travel-related expenses.

How do I register and pay for Conference?

You can register and pay online for both Conference and optional Program training.

Payment is available via credit card, purchase order or check.

We can also take credit card information over the phone. Just call 877.877.5390 and reference the SKU “CONF0001” when you register.

How do I make a room reservation at Conference?

The JW Marriott Indianapolis has set aside a block of rooms for Conference attendees. The room rate is $189/night.

What happens at Conference?

View the most recent conference schedule. While the Conference schedule is still in development, it will look similar to past Conferences, with recognized keynote speakers, group sessions to help improve CI skills, networking activities, classes for renewing certifications or adding new ones, and social events.

What goes on at the workshops?

The workshops are where Certified Instructors can take a deeper dive into specific aspects of training. You learn the why, what, and how so you can create and deliver an intentional training action plan that will help your organization achieve even greater outcomes.

Are there opportunities for collaboration?

These workshops are a great place to exchange experiences and ideas with your fellow Certified Instructors. In the end it helps make everyone involved a better trainer.

What trainings will be available during the Program days?

We will be offering Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®, Verbal Intervention™, and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® With Advanced Physical Skills as in-person instructor certification/recertification or renewal. Specialty topic programs and renewals, such as Trauma, Mental Health, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, can be added and attended virtually after Conference.

How will you conduct training at Conference?

Program training follows CPI’s blended model, with a link to an online module sent out about two weeks in advance of your training. The balance of the training will be in-person, with the exception of specialty topic programs and renewals, which are virtual and can be completed at any time.

Can I earn Continuing Education credits at Conference?

Attending the Program days provides you the opportunity to complete a continuing education training where you can engage and connect with instructors and other learners. CPI is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. IACET is recognized internationally as a standard development organization and accrediting body that promotes quality of continuing education and training.

What are the social events?

We will have offsite outings starting around 5:30 PM on both Monday, July 24, and Tuesday, July 25. On Monday we will travel to Pins Mechanical, located in the nearby Bottleworks District, for craft beer, classic cocktails, duckpin bowling, 40+ pinball machines and more old-school entertainment. On Tuesday evening we will attend an Indianapolis Indians minor league baseball game at Victory Field.

Will the menu accommodate dietary restrictions?

Every meal at Conference will include vegan and gluten-free options. If you have additional requirements please contact us.

What if I require special services?

We are committed to meeting the needs of every participant. If you have unique needs or require special services, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Is there a dress code?

There is a dress code for both Conference and the optional training programs that follow Conference.

On- and off-site Conference events: Appropriate business casual

Training events: Appropriate business casual, keeping in mind to wear comfortable clothing and shoes for hands-on training involved with Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® and NCI™ With Advanced Physical Skills.

CPI will provide regular updates to registered attendees via email, or you can visit our Conference blog where we will share the most recent news about what’s coming to—and happening at—Conference.

Does Conference happen every year?

No, CPI holds the Certified Instructors’ Conference every two years.

The last Conference was in 2019. Why is the next one only happening now?

The global pandemic postponed our 2021 Conference plans. We had hoped to only delay it for a year, but in the end decided it was better to wait until 2023 for the Care, Welfare, Safety, and SecuritySM of everyone.
